Lili Álvarez: a Story to remember

Today we are going to talk about Elia-María González-Álvarez y López-Chicheri, or also known as Lili Álvarez (much easier for us). (1905-1998). She was a Spanish-multisport competitor, an author, feminist and also a journalist.

Why are we going to talk about this woman today in this post? Well, you must have to know that Lili Álvarez was the 1st Spanish girl in the history that went to the Olimpic Games! Maybe you can think that is not something to be impressed but... What if I tell you that this happened less than 1 century ago!

Do you know the most interesting thing? She wasn't a sportwoman at all. She was also a know writter and journalist in Spain. However, during her free time, she loved to practice a lot of sports. She was specially good in of them: tennis, she played tennis very well.

So in 1924, in Chamonix (Switzerland), a Spanish girl participated for the first time in history in an Olimpic Games, in that case, the Olimpic Games of Winter of Chamonix. She participated in the sport of tennis. She did't win a medal, but her appearance there made history for us. Lili opened a door to thousand of girls that would be able to participate in Olimpic games, tournaments and sports in general where they were only ruled by men. She also practiced cycling, she flew by airplane and also drove F1 cars, so she was basically a revolutionary woman last century.

Nowadays, her life changed the history of our country, even the way that the society watched women here in Spain. Ey! What about you? Do you know an important woman that practise any sport? Did your mom practice any when she was younger? As always, comment us down below!
